Room – Market Estate Project, London
“The Market Estate Project invited 75 artists and designers to work alongside residents of a soon to be demolished housing estate, in Islington London, transforming the flats left behind, corridors, staircases and building facades and transform the building into a creative celebration, a colourful and rich last memory of the estate.”
Our submission ‘Room’ was a sculptural piece that used found furniture coated in plaster which played on notions of memory, longing and loss. We were interested in the deformation of the objects we found in the flat when coated several times with plaster, morphing beyond familiar recognition but retaining a ghostly presence.
The installation was completed for a one day community art exhibition to celebrate the life of the estate.
